Don’t abandon that old-fashioned bar of soap that you have lurking in your cupboard because it can be used to do some fabulous things around your home. From loosening zips to compensating you when you have run out of laundry detergent.
Freshen up Your Underwear Drawers
If you have any little mesh bags hanging around your home that wax melts, often come in or you have left over from a wedding party then these are amazing for making up little scented bags. Grate up some soap and pop it into the bags and then hang or place them in drawers where you want a lovely fresh smell. Great to add to your underwear drawers, hang in your wardrobe, or hang in your car.
Prevent Foggy Mirrors and Shower Screens
This works just like shaving foam, very simply rub your bar of soap all over your dry bathroom mirror or shower screen, do not use any water at all, and once covered get a clean dry microfibre cloth and buff away. The next time you have a bath or shower you will not get any foggy.
Act as a Stain Remover
If you get to your stains quick, a bar of soap can lift with ease; simply dampen the stain and then rub the bar over the stain, leave it on for a few minutes before rinsing away.
Freshen up your trainers
Sprinkle some grates soap into your smelly trainers, leave over night and bash out in the morning and the odours will have banished.
Make up your own liquid soap as you never know when you’re going to run out of laundry detergent and this is so much better than adding in a squirt of washing up liquid that can actually end up causing havoc.
Simply grate up 20ml of soap and add to 150 ml of warm water. shake really well to allow the soap particles to dissolve, let it sit for an hour and then you can go ahead and use. Pour 25ml into the dispenser drawer detergent compartment and then keep the rest with the lid on tight until next time.
Fix sticky doors
When you find drawers and sliding start to stick and not open smoothly, then it is time to loosen them. Grab your bar of soap and gently rub in the tracks to make them openly freely again.
Loosen a stick lock
Rub the key over a dry bar of soap and then insert into the stiff lock, the lock will now become easier to use.
