Cleaning essentials for new home owners

Moving into your first home is always such an exciting time. After what seems like an eternity of scrimping and saving, all of that hard work has finally paid off and you’re ready to move into your own place. But there are some less exciting aspects of being a first time homeowner as well. You’ll have to buy all of the boring stuff that you don’t really want to spend money on, but you can’t avoid. If you don’t get all of the essentials, you won’t be able to maintain a clean and comfortable home. When you go out shopping, use this checklist of first home essentials to make sure that you don’t miss anything out.

Vacuum Cleaner

Every household needs a good vacuum cleaner unless you want to live under a mountain of dust. People often make the mistake of going for the cheapest one that they can find but it isn’t worth it. The suction won’t be great so it’ll take you twice as long to clean the house and it’s also likely to break a lot quicker. You’re better off paying a little more money for a high end vacuum cleaner that will make cleaning quick and easy, and it’ll last you for years to come.

An Iron

Ironing is everybody’s least favourite job but you can’t exactly turn up to work in creased clothes every day, so you need to get yourself an iron. Again, buying cheap isn’t the best idea because you won’t get the quality and it won’t do a great job. Check out this great list of the best steam irons to make sure that you’re getting a good one. Buying a good quality iron will make the job a lot easier and quicker.

A Broom

Having a vacuum is essential for getting all of that dust and dirt up from the floor but you don’t always want to get it out every time you make a small mess. You’d be surprised how quickly hardwood floors and tiles collect dust but you can make it more manageable if you keep on top of it properly. People often think of a broom as a bit old fashioned but if you have a quick sweep every day, you won’t have to spend anywhere near as much time with the vacuum.

A Mop

Even if you’re sweeping regularly and you’ve got a decent vacuum cleaner, you’ll still get bits stuck on the floor that are hard to get up. This dirt can quickly build up and make the floor look disgusting so you’ll need a mop to clean it off. You can go for a standard mop but if you want to make life easier for yourself, get a steam cleaning mop. You won’t have to spend ages scrubbing the floors, the steam will lift any dirt right off.

Get these essentials when you first move into your new home and you’ll be able to keep it clean easily.
