My Review of the Roomba j7+ and the Braava Jet m6

Let’s be honest here. Most of you don’t enjoy cleaning and tidying the home, as much I do, I really am the exception as I absolutely love it! I see my housework as good exercise and a good stress buster, but I fully understand it is not for everyone. Cleaning to many can be mundane and boring.  So, I am bringing you a product review to save you time and effort with your floor cleaning.

Robotic vacuums and mops are becoming more and more popular particularly due to many of us living busy lifestyles, more of us having furry friends (as you know we’ve got our little black cockapoo, Hetty) and not to mention, the rise in pollen levels leading to more allergens in the home. To be honest the thought of a robotic vacuum or mop doing my cleaning has just never occurred to me but there are times when I am super busy, and I simply do not have enough hours in the day to do the cleaning I want to do.  I love to clean my floors daily and have my carpets looking fluffed up with lines and that perfect shine on my tiles.

I was very lucky and was asked to put to the test iRobot’s new robotic vacuum cleaner, the Roomba j7+ and its accompanying robotic mop, the Braava jet m6. I must say I was more than impressed with both.

Let’s start off talking about the Roomba vacuum – after all, you vacuum before you mop. Setting up was simple, the enclosed instruction manual had everything in it I needed to know.

Before you start you will need to set up the iRobot HOME app, which is easy to do.  You can create a schedule in the app or you can use the vacuum everywhere function.  When you click on the history, it will tell you where it has cleaned and when it has finished you will get an alert on your phone to say ‘cleaning complete’.

Keep your home clean on a automated schedule.

The Roomba j7+ comes with the following:

  • Self-empty dust bin
  • Self-empty dust base
  • Standard dust bin
  • Standard dock

It has two brush rolls rather than one which helps it to cover a bigger surface area – allowing it to pick up even more dust and debris. It also has a front facing camera with LED headlight so it can see underneath furniture. What’s impressive about the j7+ is it’s iRobot’s most thoughtful robot yet and gets smarter over time thanks to its home intelligence platform, iRobot OS. It has object detection known as PrecisionVision Navigation which means it can easily avoid obstacles such as kids’ toys, slippers, wires, and furniture and at Christmas time – it can even recognise your Christmas tree.

When I heard about iRobot’s P.O.O.P (iRobot’s Pet Owner Official Promise), I couldn’t help but laugh. The j7+ actually identifies and avoids cleaning the messes that your furry friend may accidentally leave behind. So, you don’t have to worry about any potential pooptastrophies any longer. Because iRobot is so confident in this technology, the P.O.O.P. promise means if your Roomba j7+ encounters pet waste that it doesn’t avoid, iRobot will replace your robot at no cost to you.

Now onto my first trial, on the first usage you need to let the Roomba map out your home and then magically the Roomba will remember this and where to go with each visit.

The Roomba going about it’s business.

Once it has finished it will return to the dock, which is incredibly stable, and empty into the dust bag which holds 2.4 litres.

I put my j7+ to the test and I am glad to report it cleans up extremely well. Having to deal with both Hetty’s pet hair and living on a lake, we get lots of wildlife which, in turn, brings with it lots of pollen and debris. My daughter suffers terribly from allergies and my j7+ has certainly helped keep these at bay with its anti–allergen capabilities. The j7+’s High-Efficiency Filter and enclosed bags capture and trap 99% of pollen and mould so dust stays out of sight and out of mind while the Clean Base Automatic Dirt Disposal also helps to eliminate any pet and dust allergens. I’m so impressed as my Roomba most certainly helps us maintain a healthier home.

Braava Jet m6

The Braava Jet m6 goes to work after the Roomba has finished it’s rounds.

Let’s now talk about my new robotic mop, the Braava Jet m6.

This is a big WOW from me – it is absolutely brilliant. I am so impressed that this simple, small machine can actually clean, buff and shine up my hard floors.  To be honest when I first took it out of the box, I didn’t have very high expectations but OMG it is brilliant. It also doesn’t soak your floor with solution.

Like the j7+, the m6 will use smart mapping to map out and learn your home and it will not go over rugs and door mats.

Control the robots through a dedicated app on your phone.

My favourite bit is that it can work in tandem with your vacuum, using imprint technology. When your Roomba has finished, it will send a signal to the m6 to start, basically all your floor cleaning can be done whilst you are out of the house. Being connected to Alex or Google assistant means you can say ‘Hey Roomba, clean the living room’.

The m6 comes with 4 disposable mopping pads, 2 are for dry mopping and 2 are for wet mopping and 2 permanent pads that can easily be washed.  In dry sweeping mode, the pads use electrostatic force to pick up dirt, dust, debris, and pet hair. You will be really surprised at what it can pick up.

In wet mopping mode, you need to fill up the tank with water and cleaning solution and once it gets to work it will travel a few feet before spraying. It does this in straight efficient lines. Absolutely fascinating to watch!

You can adjust the amount of solution it uses from low too high in the app and it is really efficient with its water usage – even in high spray mode. I purposely spilt a mug of coffee and a glass of juice and left these a while before putting the m6 to the test. Dried in coffee and juice stains usually need a standard mop to go over a few times but the m6 removed these in one motion.

The Braava Jet m6 on the move.

The m6 is equipped with a camera very much like the j7+ and when cleaning a large home, has a recharge and resume option, meaning if it is getting low on battery it will go back to its docking station to recharge. The m6 will know where it finished and go back there to start again. Genius!

The weather has been absolutely glorious this year and when I have been feeling tired, hot and bothered, these machines have been an absolute treat. The j7+ and m6 have helped me maintain a healthy, clean home while freeing up my time to spend with my family.
