Chemical Free Weed Killer

I am not a fan of using chemical-based weed killers in the garden, I have never found them particularly safe for children and pets.

Once spring hits the weeds do seem to suddenly start popping up all over the place and they are pretty unsightly especially when they start creeping up in-between the patio slabs

If you are like me and would rather not use chemicals then try these simple homemade recipes that are just as quick and effective.

Boiling Water is the Instant Weed Killer

Boiling water is certainly an appealing alternative to toxic herbicides: it’s free of harmful chemicals, it’s cheap, and it kills weeds. Simply pour boiling water to cover the weed and to penetrate the ground to the plant’s root.

It will wilt away straight away and once it has dried you can pull away the remainder

Vinegar and Lemon Juice

Mix 20ml of white vinegar and 20ml of cooking lemon juice into a spray bottle, give it a good shake, and then spray all over the weed. The acidic combination here is what kills the weeds with a burning effect

Lemon juice and vinegar can kill any type of plant, so when spraying your weeds, make sure you avoid the plants you want to keep.

Stronger Natural Alternative

For more aggressive thistle-type weeds you may need to try a stronger combination.

Mix together 1 tablespoon of washing-up liquid, 2 tablespoons of white vinegar, and 2 tablespoons of rubbing alcohol into a spray bottle. shake well and then spray directly to the weed being very careful not to spray any other plants or flowers.

These mixtures will last three months then you need to remake them.

Don’t forget to purchase your spray bottles and your vinegar in a gallon bottle from amazon and label your bottles clearly
