The Art of Spring Cleaning – With The Crown Estate

Today I have been talking on radio shows throughout the UK discussing the Spring Clean. With British TV viewers enthralled by the ‘Marie Kondo’ I explain why we love sprucing up our homes and the beneficial effects it has on our mental health. Many are flocking to UK shopping centre to pick up cleaning and home organisational products. Shops such as Marks and Spencers, Home Sense, Homebase, B&Q, Argos, Debenhams and Next are full of great ranges at affordable prices. One of my favourites being the M&S eco range.

  • 38.6 million Brits are expected to get their dusters out over the Bank Holiday weekend
  • We love a good cleaning session – 27% say it helps them develop a ‘fresh start’ 22% do it purely to relieve stress
  • Spring cleaning is a yearly tradition say almost a third (32%), making it easier and more enjoyable will no doubt increase that figure

It’s Spring Cleaning season – with the Easter Bank Holiday just one day away, over 38 million of us are planning on busting out the polish and dusters and renovating all those nooks and crannies around the house.

Buoyed by recent Netflix smash, ‘Tidying Up with Marie Kondo’, it turns out that Brits love a bit of sprucing up. In fact, over a fifth (22%) of those surveyed by The Crown Estate said they clean as a way of relieving stress. Even more (27%) said it helps develop a ‘fresh start’, clearing their mind while clearing their living room.

For just short of a third (32%) of tidy-minded Brits, Spring Cleaning is a yearly tradition, yet with a little nudge and some essential cleaning life hacks, that number is surely set to increase.

Are we about to see a new generation of super-cleaners? A third (33%) of 16-24 year olds said they enjoy cleaning more now than they did before purely because they find it therapeutic, more than any other age group. They’re also more likely to spend more time now cleaning (36%) than anyone else, spurred on by the beneficial effects to their mental health.
